“The look with the book.”
How I Read and Write
My writing style is as a journaler–personal thoughts and reactions; a reader who likes to write. As a former book clerk with a degree in Medieval history, I am now drawn to 19th/early 20th century classic literature, which I read like primary source documents. I am inspired by Nature and the Spirituality of the Earth and likewise, those who write about it.

Me, Personally
I live with my trusty canine companion, Jess, among the surfers and other laid back folks in Huntington Beach, California. I love to ride my bike along the Santa Ana River and trail walk in the nearby mountains. I enjoy leisurely Sunday drives down the coast and old movies from the 1930s and 40s.

My bike, the beach, a bagel and a book…a good day!

I have been to Huntington Beach and had lunch in the restaurant at the end of the pier!
Surf boards and shirts….cherry red booths and a juke box.
Great atmosphere! Also enjoyed all the “surfing stars” embedded along the boulevard.

What a small world! That is Ruby’s. A great location. And yes, surfing is the thing here. Huntington Beach is also known as Surf City, USA, thanks to the Beach Boys π

Did you ever finish the second half of Gone with the Wind? I seriously dropped the ball there. Sorry! π π

Hi Jillian! No, I didn’t. I loved it, but it was taking up too much time. I am going to finish it this summer. Don’t worry I don’t blame you π but it’s not just that it is hugely looooong, but so interestingly detailed that I had to keep stopping to look something up or stop and just think about it. This is one of those books that if you haven’t read it you think you know it and that is just not true!

Quite so! I finished my read, but I ran out of steam for all the journaling. I’ll DEFINITELY read it again. I hope you enjoy the rest when you get back to it. π x

Jillian – have you read it? I haven’t, just saw the movie & have always felt like it is not kind to women at all.

Hi da-AL,
YES, I have read it. It’s my favorite novel! I’m on a sixth read right now. π I’m not sure what you mean about the book being unkind to women? Unless you’re not seeing how it dismantles the Southern treatment of women because you’ve seen the film {written by a man} & not read the novel {written by the daughter of a fiery suffragette.} It’s about the way the treatment of Scarlett early life failed to prepare her for what was coming, & turned her into a desperate, groping monster.

Ah – well now you’ve truly enlightened me- you’re right about my referring to disheartening film- must read the book- many thanks, dear π

Another bibliomaniac like me! I an VERY eclectic in my reading – for example I’m presently reading Cloud Atlas by David Mitchel and The Canterbury Tales!

haha! what a combination! Right now I am concentrating on classic 19th and early 20th century literature, but if I ever got into a situation where I had to choose ONE genre or time period or fiction or non….yikes!

Have you read Cloud Atlas? I’m only a few pages in but sense it is an ambitious and unusual novel!
