Hosted at The Intrepid Reader blog, the rules are very simple-read historical fiction! To sign up and for more information the challenge page is here.
Any sub-genre of historical fiction is accepted (Historical Romance, Historical Mystery, Historical Fantasy, Young Adult, History/Non-Fiction, etc.)
During the following 12 months you can choose one of the different reading levels:
20th Century Reader – 2 books
Victorian Reader – 5 books
Renaissance Reader – 10 books
Medieval – 15 books
Ancient History – 25 books
Prehistoric – 50+ books
My list is short to start, but I can add books as I go. I hope to become a Victorian at the very least 🙂
- Grave Goods, Ariana Franklin
- The House at Tyneford, Natasha Solomons
- Ponniyin Selvan, Kalki Krishnamurthy
- Siddhartha, Herman Hesse
I’ve heard such great things about “The House at Tyneford” – I am now officially adding that to my TBR – your review was the reminder I needed – thank you. I see that you wanted to get some more historical fiction books in your life soooo I wanted to recommend a book for you! It’s called “Matilda Empress” by Lise Arin (https://www.lisearin.com/) and one of my favorite books of 2021. It would be for the Medieval section of the challenge. This is based on a real person, Matilda, Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, who faces obstacle after obstacle but perseveres. She is married against her will, her cousin (who she is having an affair with) steals the throne from her when her father passes away, she has to face civil war, and she becomes pregnant with her cousin’s child, the rightful heir to the throne. I could NOT put this book down and it kind of reminded me of The Other Boleyn Girl. Hope you will add it to your list. Happy reading
